Abstract: [Purpose/significance] In recent years, with the continuous integration and extension of the development of library and information business, the boundaries of the library profession have become more blurred, not only deepened with other professional communications, but also gradually penetrated into other areas, such as information consultation, data analysis, publication and communication. It is important to explore the new challenges for academic libraries.[Method/process] From the relationships between the library and the above three occupations, from the perspective of the academic library, the paper explores how the library's business can further extend from reference services to research consulting services, from book-based to data-driven, from collection to publication, and analyses the new challenges and opportunities brought by the library transformation.[Result/conclusion] Academic libraries should play a leading role in the transformation and commit to exploring and developing research consulting services, data-driven services and academic communication services.
