Abstract: [Purpose/Significance] Cognitive load is an important factor for herd behavior. This paper explores herd information use behavior and its antecedents in the context of digital library from the perspective of cognitive load, which could help understand users' herd behavior of information user behavior better, and provide reference for the optimization of user services in the digital library.[Method/Process] Firstly, this paper constructed the research model based on herd behavior research and cognitive load theory. Then, it collected data using questionnaire survey and got 308 valid data. Finally, the partial-least-squares structural equation model was used to verify the research model.[Result/Conclusion] The findings show that imitating others, navigation structure and flow experience positively affect herd information use intention, while the effect of task complexity on herd information use intention is overpowered by flow experience. Flow experience and task complexity have a significant positive effect on imitating others, while navigation structure has no significant effect on imitating others. Imitating others partially mediates the effects of task complexity, navigation structure, and flow experience on herd information use intention. Based on the above results, this paper provides some suggestions for the long-term development of the digital library, user service optimization, and information use behavior guidance from the providers and users.
