Establishing ArXiv China Service Group to Promote Open Access Movement in China

ArXiv是一个由康乃尔大学图书馆运营的重要开放获取系统,在国际科学家团体中起着重要的作用。为了推动ArXiv在我国相关领域的普及,促进我国科技界积极参与ArXiv预印本论文的存缴和资源的有效利用,中国科学院国家科学图书馆于2012年8月发起成立中国ArXiv服务工作组的倡议,得到国内多家主要图书馆的响应。2012年10月22日,在"中国开放获取推介周"上,国内10家重要机构成立"中国ArXiv服务工作组",主要探讨ArXiv在科研成果开放发表中的特殊地位,分析ArXiv在中国科技界的主要应用情况,研讨中国ArXiv服务工作组将如何更有效地推动ArXiv在中国科技界中的普及和应用。

ArXiv is well-known e-Print archive maintained and operated by the Cornell University Library. It plays an very important role in the scientist community arround the world. To raise awareness of ArXiv in the relevant academic fields in China, to encourage Chinese researchers depositing their articles into ArXiv, and to improve the usage of ArXiv resources, National Science Library proposed a initiative to establish the ArXiv China Service Group. This initiative received a positive response from some main libraries in China. On 22nd October 2012, during the China Open Access Week, the ArXiv China Service Group was formally set up, which includes ten member institutes. This article analyzes the special role of ArXiv in the open publishing movement, investigates the usage of ArXiv in China, and disscusses the plan of ArXiv China Service Group to promote ArXiv usage in China.
