Book discussion club is one of important forms of reading promotion. This article introduces the concept and type of book discussion club, outlines the domestic and foreign development status. Europe’s and America’s practical experience are mainly discussed, including national strategy development, establishment of professional promotion agency, partnership mechanism led by libraries, progressive quality framework, rich organization guidelines provision, online reading community construction, and staff training. It makes suggestions on carrying out reading group activities for Chinese libraries and provides reference for their reading promotion practices.
