知识共享许可协议的兼容性问题比较复杂。不同知识共享协议之间的不兼容是由创作者选择偏好决定的，应该尊重创作者的选择，保留这种不兼容。如果取消移植项目，同一知识共享协议的版本数量将大为减少，兼容性问题也会有所缓解。知识共享组织目前正尝试解决知识共享许可协议与GNU自由文档许可协议、自由艺术许可协议和GNU通用公共许可协议等协议之间的不兼容问题，并决定在4.0版本中修改知识共享兼容协议的定义。
The issue about compatibility of Creative Commons licenses is complicated. The incompatibility among different Creative Commons licenses is decided by creators' preference. It is necessary to respect the authors and reserve the incompatibility. If Creative Commons cancels the Porting Project, the number of versions of the same Creative Commons license will be reduced and the issue of incompatibility will be alleviated greatly. Creative Commons are trying to solve the incompatibility problem between the Creative Commons licenses and other open licenses such as the GNU Free Documentation License, the Free Art License and the GNU General Public License. Creative Commons decides to revise the definition of "Creative Commons Compatible License" in version 4.0.
