Abstract

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis from the aspects of field, journal, country and keywords on papers in the subject of technological innovation retrieved from 1950 to 2013. And combining with the timezone map of these papers' cited reference network generated by CiteSpaceIII, this study investigates the selected classic papers and books chronologically to conclude the five areas in the arena of technological innovation, including innovation economics, innovation policy, innovation system, enterprise technological innovation, technological innovation and technology transfer, and finally to develop a technological innovation trajectory which is a four-phase evolution theory: restudy Schumpeter's innovation economics, deconstruct technological innovation, integrate innovation system and open innovation. The paper is aiming at providing a historical perspective towards the development of future technological innovation theory.
