This paper examines representations of evolution of the library and information profession, points out that the professionalism is the essential attribute of MLIS, the categories of library and information profession increased and the fields expanded. For rich practices, combined with professionalization analysis, this paper summarizes the current situation and predicament of MLIS education. Regarding to this, the author explores the development paths of the MLIS based on the professionalization, including developing the roles of related associations and industries in MLIS program, strengthening the practice in the process of training, promoting the establishment of professional qualification certification system oriented to external quality evaluation system, and building education mode of MLIS based on the professionalization.
