The authors investigate the latest usage situations of radio frequency(RFID) technology in American universities. The results reveal that one-sixth university libraries are using RFID, mainly for record collection and self-checkout; More than half of the users ae satisfied with RFID; Installation cost and safety problems are the major concerns in all libraries; At present, cost is the primary difficulty that prevents libraries from using RFID. At the end, the authors propose improvements to deal with the problems in the usage of RFID.
