[Purpose/significance]To describe the characteristics and potential laws and make suggestions on library information service and seeking task design through model design and empirical analysis.[Method/process]Under the guidance of activity theory and its methodologies, this paper constructs a six-step model of scholar information seeking behavior of graduate students and makes empirical study of Peking University, including a questionnaire survey and an interview.[Result/conclusion]It constructs the activity model of information seeking behavior of graduate students, describes the characteristics of subject, object, tool, result, sub-system and structure of personal and cooperation seeking behavior, reveals potential laws in tool choice, obstacle overcoming and cooperation seeking and concludes suggestions on library resource recommendation, project advice and information literature education and seeking task designs.
