[Purpose/significance] The purpose of this study is to answer how users with different exploratory seeking intention express their information needs, which seeking strategy is preferred by different expressions of needs, and how this selection mechanism is affected by users' expected performance. [Method/process] This paper explored the complexity of users' seeking intention and the diversification of seeking strategies through theoretical research, and established a theoretical framework on the influence mechanism of users' exploratory seeking intention on seeking strategy selection combined with the analysis of users' demand expression and expected performance, then collected seeking behavior data by scenario simulation questionnaire to reveal the preference and its causes of five exploratory seeking intentions (undirected information collection, directed information collection, knowledge acquisition, suggestions for consultation, and social connection) in choosing seeking strategies (comprehensive search engine, professional search engine, personal cyberspace SMQA, Q&A platform enquiring, and short video website browsing). [Result/conclusion] The difference of the demand expression of exploratory seeking intention is caused by the nature of seeking objectives and users' cognitive ability. There are significant differences in the choice of seeking strategies for different demand expression. The regulatory effect of expected performance promotes the diversification and strategy transformation of exploratory seeking strategy selection.
