Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] The current research status related to frustration in the field of information search and retrieval is investigated, aiming to offer references for frustration coping. [Method/Process] This paper systematically analyzed domestic and international studies and summarized the causes of frustration from frustration definition, information seeking frustration, information search frustration, and frustration factors. [Result/Conclusion] The current literature combines various research methods such as questionnaires, interviews, experiments and log mining to reveal the causes of frustration and the influence of factors such as user, task, information outcome and environment on frustration in information seeking and searching. Based on these progresses, this study proposed suggestions on future research from the perspectives of frustration theory model construction, user frustration measurement, information literacy education, and information service.
