Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] Social media affordances provide opportunities for healthcare institutions, companies, and individuals at all levels to engage in health science popularization practices on social media. Investigating how elder adults learn and share health science knowledge through intergenerational support is of significant importance. [Method/Process] This study proposed four social media affordances related to human-computer interaction, and interpersonal interaction. This paper constructed a theoretical model for empirical analysis to explore the important role of social media affordances in intergenerational communication, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and knowledge sharing behavior of elders about health science popularization, as well as the moderating effect of self-efficacy. [Result/Conclusion] The results show that intergenerational communication and intergenerational knowledge transfer are positively influenced by aesthetic affordances, self-expression affordances and collaboration affordances. Intergenerational communication and intergenerational knowledge transfer both positively influence the older people’s knowledge sharing behavior about health science popularization. Self-efficacy plays a negative moderating role in the relationship between intergenerational communication and the elders’ knowledge sharing behavior about health science popularization.
