[Purpose/Significance] The concept of “specialized research methods” has been debated for a long time in the methodology of library science in China. Clarifying the conceptual controversy and constructing a dialectical conceptual framework with multidimensional -prescriptiveness can lay a theoretical foundation for improving the methodological system of library science. [Method/Process] Based on core concepts in the scientific methodological system, a three-dimensional analytical framework integrating process theory, hierarchical theory, and typological theory was established. Using logical analysis methods, this study systematically deconstructed the conceptual connotation, extensional boundaries, and logical interconnections of specialized research methods in library science. [Result/Conclusion] The specialized research methods in library science demonstrate applicability across the entire scientific research process, comprising sequential methodological components: problem selection techniques, first-hand empirical data acquisition, second-hand documentary collection approaches, data processing protocols, and conclusion generalization mechanisms. These methods essentially constitute a methodological framework constructed through the general-specific dialectical relationship, whose precise conceptualization necessitates a foundational systematic cognition of universal scientific methodologies. From a typological perspective, this study proposes a tripartite classification system for library science research methods: theoretical, technical, and engineering library science.
