Taking citation data of fullerenes field as sample, different sizes and formats citation networks are generated by HistCiteTM. With the three main path algorithms integrated into Pajek, which are search path count, search path link count and search path node pair, this paper analyzes the differences of components and morphology between different data formats and network scales of main paths. It explores the relationship of scale and length of main path with curve fitting method. The results show that there are not significant difference between the results of three main path algorithms, there are logarithmic relation between the length of the main path and the network scale, and that the main path tends to be stable at a certain network scale (about 40% of the total number of vertices).
