This paper introduces the concept of cluster knowledge creation capability, which is influenced by the opportunities, motivating factors and effectiveness of inter-enterprise knowledge exchange in cluster. It thinks that the knowledge breadth, technology modularity degree and technological turbulence of cluster products are three variables which determine the inter-enterprise knowledge exchange opportunity in cluster; the cooperative orientation level and the exchanged knowledge property of the leading cluster enterprise are two factors that enable the inter-enterprise knowledge to exchange; knowledge overlap level of cluster enterprises and the ability to dismantle obsolete knowledge exchange relationships are two factors that relate to the effectiveness of knowledge exchange. Finally, this paper analyzes three kinds of knowledge creation failures respectively, and proposes implications for cluster enterprises as well as for cluster.
Key words: knowledge exchange; cluster; knowledge creation; cluster innovation
