Basic Education Support Services of New York Public Library and the Enlightenments

This paper conducts a comprehensive analysis on basic education support services of New York Public Library, from seven aspects of constructing the digital teaching reference resources from multi-channels, actively implementing the education development plan, courseware development and customized services, establishing a curriculum resource library, providing service tutorials, carrying out educational resource recommendation and subscription service, developing applications to support teaching services. It discoveries that New York Public Library has representativeness in providing basic education support service. To effectively carry out Chinese basic education service work, Chinese public libraries should learn from the successful practice of basic education support services of New York Public Library, which include constructing teaching resources in a variety of ways, providing information navigation and tutorial services, cultivating librarians of basic education support service, building donation database of teaching resource, establishing course paper service platform, implementing customized service of digital curriculum resource, and establishing evaluation mechanisms of basic education support service.
