Demand Analysis on Scientific Data Management in Universities Based on User Survey

Based on the survey of scientific researchers from eleven universities in Wuhan, this paper analyzes the scientific data management service demands in universities from four perspectives of characteristics of scientific data, users' cognition to scientific data, users' behaviors of managing scientific data and their requirement. It makes some suggestions how university libraries involve in scientific management. Firstly, the university library should strengthen the promotion of scientific data management to improve the awareness of scientific data management of scientific departments and users. Secondly, it needs to establish cooperative relations with the research departments and the IT departments to jointly promote the development of scientific data management. Thirdly, it should invite users to participate in all stages of scientific data management projects, to provide data management services based on users' demands. Finally, scientific data management staff must be trained as soon as possible.
