Abstract

Open access book publishing is a relatively new field in the open access movement. The content framework of OAPEN open access publication model provides the reference for the analysis. This paper investigates and analyzes twenty typical OA book publishing projects at abroad from three perspectives of business-publishing model, services model and legal framework. Firstly, it sums up six types of business-publishing models, which are institutional subsidies, OA publishing cost payment, collaborative publishing, dual-edition publishing, free contents and value-added services, etc. Then it analyzes services models from three aspects of OA book itself and quality control, member/author services and users’ services. Finally, this paper summarizes the legal framework, which mainly makes use of different kinds of Creative Commons licenses.
