Resilience of Scientific Collaboration Network: An Empirical Research

The paper expounds the concept, research significance, and application of scientific collaboration network resilience, and takes a scientific collaboration network composed of 100 selected universities in the field of LIS as an example. Size of giant component and network efficiency are further selected as the metrics of network resilience to explore the scientific collaboration network resilience according to the node removal strategies of degree centrality, betweenness centrality and randomized ones. Results from the case study suggest that the scientific collaboration network has good robustness and strong fault tolerant ability for the random failure, while the anti-attack capability of the network for the selective failure is poor, and network efficiency is a better measurement index for the scientific collaboration network resilience than size of giant component.
