Analysis and Recommendations of Misunderstanding in the PDA (Patron-driven Acquisition)

Abstract

This paper discusses four kinds of misunderstandings about PDA that easily occurs in the study. Those misunderstandings include the relationship between PDA and acquisition cost, stressing on "decision" in translating PDA into Chinese, public or not when practicing PDA, fit all type of collection development or not, etc. It also gives academic libraries, who want to practice PDA, five recommendations which include foreign books acquisition, implicit application, carefully choosing press, readers' participation right and enhancing result assess, etc. in order that PDA can easily implement in Chinese academic libraries.
