Comparative Study on Postgraduate Services in Chinese and American Libraries

This paper compares the report of New Roles for New Times: Research Library Services for Graduate Students released by American Research Library Association with related literatures in China, and investigates several library websites. It finds that both libraries in China and American focus on subject librarian and subject service, instruction, outreach and learning commons to provide services for postgraduates. Library guides, requirements survey and feedback, and position setting for postgraduate services in research libraries in North America are all worth studying. Chinese libraries should redefine themselves as key core partners in postgraduate education and improve library services to meet postgraduate requirements.
