Survey on the Utilization of Public Library Services by the Public in Different Regions of China

This paper conducts a survey on the utilization of public library services by the urban and rural population in 24 provinces of China. It makes a statistic analysis from the perspectives of use ration of public libraries, understanding the position of public libraries, reasons why not often use library and competitive advantages of public libraries in different regions. Results show that: the proportion of respondents who often use (monthly or weekly use) libraries accounts for 18.1%; the proportion of those who know and have been libraries accounts for 44.7%; three main reasons that they have time but not often use library include no nearby library, fewer and no updating books, and barely knowing due to lack of publicity; libraries attracting the public should have a wealth of information resources, free service and elegant environment. Finally, it summarizes the valuable suggestions on public library building, collection and organization, services, seminars and publicity.
