Abstract

As the driving force of users' information seeking, task is the main factor affecting information seeking. Based on introducing the research status of task concepts and types, this paper proposes a task framework for information seeking behavior, that is internal basic characteristics of task include objectives, paths and outcomes. Then it extracts complex characteristics of task such as complexity, structural, etc. External characteristics of task emphasize on influences of performer characteristics of prior knowledge and cognition needs. Integrating internal and external task characteristics, this paper determines the type of task, explores the relationship between task and information seeking behavior. Finally, it proposes main research issues based on the task framework.
