Analysis of Monopoly of “Exclusive Licensing Strategy” from Academic Information Resource Database Vendors

Abstract

In order to enhance their competitive advantages, some academic information resource database vendors implement their marketing strategy as "exclusive licensing". Once this strategy is combined with "bundling strategy", "single source" characteristics of database products will surely appear, and block the new database vendors to enter this market, thus to weaken their competition, which is called monopoly. According to anti-monopoly law, this kind of monopoly belongs to "monopoly agreement".
