"Friends of the Library" plays an important role on developing literature resources, improving services facilities, and improve service levels in libraries. This paper analyzed the creation and function, management and advocacy, activities, implementation of the project, and members of "Friends of the Library" in American university libraries. And it finally presented the enlightenment to our university libraries, including focusing on establishing a good relationship with people outside the library, forming "Friends of the Library", standardizing the management of "Friends of the Library", and relying on the "Friends of the Library" to innovate services.
