Abstract

This paper focuses on interdisciplinary teams, taking the Tsien Hsueshen system scientific innovation team and an aerospace field innovation team as cases, and discusses knowledge taxonomy and interactive process of collaborative knowledge creation. Collaborative knowledge creation relies not only on thematic knowledge, which is directly related to team tasks, but also on unthematic knowledge, which is not directly associated with team tasks, but carrying on roles of understanding and explaining thematic knowledge of different disciplines and promoting interactive communication and common consensus. In the interactive process, interdisciplinary teams make collaborative knowledge creation happen through the four phases of knowledge articulation, knowledge interpretation, knowledge emergence and knowledge construction. The main contribution is introducing the philosopher Habermas's taxonomy of thematic knowledge and unthematic knowledge, and proposing a process model of collaborative knowledge creation.
