Study on Obsolescence and Innovation of Academic Papers from Perspective of Knowledge Transfer

The 50 years citation data analysis, which bases on the SCI and CNKI database mathematics and other subjects, shows that the value of academic papers and information environment are the main factors affecting knowledge transfer, and the knowledge unit transfer is the root cause of papers' obsolescence and innovation. The citation between papers reveals the trajectory between academic knowledge. Thus, the transfer degree of knowledge units can be used to measure the degree of obsolescence and innovation of papers. Assuming that academic paper is a logical combination of a set of knowledge units, which contains m knowledge units and n innovative knowledge units (where m ≥ n), then Ai=(∑1iSi)/n, (Ai is the obsolescence degree of the paper in its academic life cycle of the year i), Ii=(m-∑1iSi)/n, (Ii is innovation degree of the paper in its academic life cycle of the year i).
