Case Study of Curriculum System in American iSchool:Curriculum System Study of School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina in Recent 10 Years

Abstract

Based on the basic data and strategic plan of School of Information and Library Science, University of North Carolina from 2004 to 2014, this paper makes a systematic and dimensional analysis of the curriculum system of its curriculum system of Library and Information Science from five aspects, including strategic plan, course structure, course transformation, frequency of course setting and cultivation mechanism. The result shows that the curriculum system is flexible, consistent and focuses on hot topics about iSchool. It also has innovative course forms and differential concentrations of Library and Information Science. Several aspects are proposed for the curriculum system in China, such as to develop a curriculum system strategic plan, pay attention to consistence in different semesters, enrich the curriculum forms, introduce library into education and make adjustment of the proportions between required courses and elective courses.
