Investigation and Research on Digital Long-term Preservation from the Perspective of National Preservation System

The paper makes a survey on the acquisition and use of digital resources, challenges of long-term preservation, and attitudes towards a national preservation system of 17 Chinese main libraries. It reveals that digital resources purchasing scale of these libraries keeps growing, while most of them are lack of the security of reliable access. Almost all surveyed libraries strongly support the implementation of the national preservation system of digital resources.Based on the result of the survey, the paper suggests that the national preservation system should be put in practice as soon as possible. Moreover, the paper points out that establishment of preservation mechanism and guarantee of basic conditions are both critical to the national preservation system.
