Abstract

We tease out a general framework for scientific knowledge diffusion studies based on analysis of related literature in this field. Detailed review and comments are given on aspects of research object, diffusion relationship, indicators and diffusion models. The research objects can be basically divided into academic fields and scholars. The process of diffusion is usually represented by citation or co-author relations. In empirical studies, citation analysis is the major method for scientific knowledge diffusion research. Indicators are classified into three levels which are article, journal, and discipline. Current scientific knowledge model studies are mainly qualitative with a few quantitative analysis methods, and a common way for model study in this field is to refer to advanced models in other subjects.
