Relationship Between Non-cited Rates and Journal Evaluation Indicators: A Case Study in Economics

The current journal evaluation indicators are mainly positive. In order to explore the possibility to evaluate journals in a reverse way, based on the current study, the Web of Knowledge's searching results are used to analyze the top ten papers published in economics journals according to the JCR 2012 evaluating result. The 2-6 years non-cited rates are calculated to compare with journal evaluation indicators, such as impact factor, five-year impact factor, h-index, article influence score and some other indicators by correlation analysis. And the relationship between the trend and time window is also being discussed. The results indicate that it is rational to use non-cited rates for reversed journal evaluation. For a strong discipline like economics, a time window of 2-3 years may be more reasonable. The study also finds that as the longer the paper being published, the weaker relationship the non-cited rates have between the journal evaluation indicators.
