Abstract

The paper takes a comparative experiment on basis of the social bookmarking systems, search engines and directories,and discusses the search efficiency of the social bookmarking systems with other network information searching systems from the perspective of the relative recall and relative precision. The results show that the search engines in the study had the highest relative precision and relative recall, and the social bookmarking systems fared surprisingly well. Overall the directories were less precise than the social bookmarking system, but they had similar recall scores. It is also found that on some specific information needs, the search efficiency of the social bookmarking system is better than search engine.
