Abstract

[Purpose/significance] Based on the research and review of Scientometrics, we identify mainstream frontier research fields and hotspots of Scientometrics after entering the development period, explore its evolutionary path and draw knowledge mapping.[Method/process] By means of Bibexcel and SPSS software, we got mainstream research fields in each stage of Scientometrics through co-citation analysis and factor analysis; By means of CiteSpace II software, we identified and visualized the research hot spots and fronts through co-word analysis.[Result/conclusion] Citation analysis, scientific cooperation and research evaluation have been the mainstream research fields of Scientometrics in the development period, research objects are constantly expanding and research methods are constantly improving. Besides, methods from other disciplines such as social network analysis are introduced. As the stage goes on, we find that the density of hot spots network and fronts network are constantly improving and turning points in the process of research frontier's dynamic change are constantly increasing. This shows that the research of Scientometrics becomes richer and deeper. Mainstream research fields, hot spots and fronts of Scientometrics were analyzed in three stages innovatively. It could demonstrate its evolutionary path more clearly.
