Understanding Users: Study on the Application of Ethnographic Methods in Library and Information Science

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The application of ethnographic method in research on library and information users, being helpful to insight into and meet the need of user, has become a considerable trend in a foreign country. However, it has not attracted enough attention in China and need to do some deep introduction and discuss.[Method/process] Interprets the background knowledge and the internal logic of ethnographic method employed in the field of library and information science, and analyzes the concrete application of overseas practice cases and the actual results.[Result/conclusion] The ethnographic method, of which characteristics conforms to the trend of library and information study, has the practical significance and worthy of learning for domestic peer.
