An Analysis on Equalization Measurement and Spatial Pattern of Public Library Services of China

[Purpose/significance] The purpose of this study is to analyze the regional differences and spatial variation of public library services. [Method/process] The paper is based on three aspects including resource input, service output and benefits, and builds the evaluation system of the level of public library service based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). By collecting the statistical data from 31 provinces of China on 2012, it applies Theil index to calculate the equalization level of public library services and employs spatial autocorrelation to analyze its spatial pattern in China. [Result/conclusion] The results show that the public library services showed lower trends from east to west. Most public libraries supplied a low-level of services. The index of public library services has obvious regional differences and the differences come mainly from the inside of the three major regions. The internal disparity of the east and west region were the main components of the overall disparity. The distribution of public library services showed obvious spatial cluster pattern and spatial heterogeneity.
