Research and Practice on the Children's Reading Service in American Public Libraries: Take the Example of Tompkins County Public Library in the New York State of America

[Purpose/significance] In order to solve children's reading service problems including reading consciousness, short cycle and monotonous activities in Chinese public libraries, analyzes the reading service for American children, and then establishes service strategies to improve the children's reading service. [Method/process] This paper discusses service awareness of Children's reading in American public libraries, proposing five strategies including resource, activity, main body, space and propagation for children's reading service in public libraries. Some methods including optimizing collection, developing activity, paying attention to subject of children's reading service in Tompkins County Public Library of New York State in America are introduced. [Result/conclusion] Through the research on the America public library experience, proposes five important implications for children's reading service in China.
