Seeking the New Equilibrium in the Changing Knowledge Environment: A Review on Library Development Strategies of the English-Spoken Countries in 2014

[Purpose/significance] The paper aims to comprehend the library development status in 2014, to understand the development policy, idea, strategy and practice of libraries in developed English-spoken countries, to analyze the librarianship development trends in the future, and to provide references for Chinese libraries.[Method/process] It scans and traces the policy documents of development strategies and environment, research reports, strategic planning and important report released by major English-spoken countries and international organizations during the year of 2014, makes the literature review based on the above texts.[Result/conclusion] The paper finds out that the words such as "equilibrium" or "balance" occur more frequently in expressions related to library development. It argues that in a changing knowledge context, librarianship is seeking the new equilibrium in environment, resource, space, content, roles and so on.
