Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper discusses the generalities and differences of OPAC searching behaviors between public and non-public computers.[Method/process] By distinguishing the OPAC users log data between the public and non-public computers in Beijing Normal University, it compares the searching behaviors from aspects of the overall characteristics and search behavior characteristics in a searching session.[Result/conclusion] The findings indicates that the key searching behaviors between two kinds of users are highly consistent, including the search points, the use of advanced search functions and query adjustment strategy employed in a searching session. Meanwhile, some significant differences between them are discovered, including the frequency of queries and the duration time in one searching session, and the time interval between two sessions.
