[Purpose/significance] Combing the related theory models and indicator systems is benefit to promote the establishment of social impact assessment system for scientific research, and optimize the effectiveness of scientific research management policies.[Method/process] Based on the articles of scientific research social impact in web of science, Google scholar and CNKI, the paper reviews the evaluation paradigm, theoretical model, evaluation method and index system.[Result/conclusion] Results-oriented and process-oriented are two main paradigms of research social impact assessment. Multidimensional model, SIAMPI model, payback model, communication model, and logic model are five key assessment models. The evaluation index system is constructed from perspectives of formation conditions and results. In the context of innovation-driven development, the research social impact evaluation should adhere to the value orientation that science services to the society, strengthen and optimize the operability and quantitative measurement of research evaluation indicator system, mine and integrate the multiple data of research social impact.
