Semantic Representation of Chinese Thesauri

Abstract

With the rise and growth of the Semantic Web and Linked Data, semantically representing a thesaurus in SKOS becomes a main trend,which provides a new opportunity to publish and share thesauri on the Web as well as their application in a network environment.[Method/process]By taking Chinese Thesaurus for an example, this paper seeks to investigate the semantic representation, validation and linked data publication of Chinese thesauri.Firstly, the author designed a representation schema based on SKOS, SKOS-XL and SKOS extensions to achieve the lossless semantic representation of thesauri, and developed a semantic transformation program based on the N-Triples format to make the semantization of large-scale thesaurus easy and efficient.Then, the author performed the validation of SKOS/RDF thesauri using the emerging SPIN framework to ensure their correctness and validity.Finally, the author published Chinese Thesaurus on the Web as Linked Data using the combination of “Jena TDB + Fuseki + Pubby”, and developed an information retrieval interface for thesaurus linked data.[Result/conclusion]The experiment results show that the proposed method can be used in the efficient semantic representation, validation and publication of Chinese Thesaurus.This study provides a valuable attempt to facilitate the sharing and application of Chinese thesauri on the Web.
