[Purpose/significance] In the cloud environment, many industries have moved their servers to cloud hosting. So do libraries. A lot foreign libraries started applying IaaS recently and benefit from those. By analyzing the patterns and experience of foreign libraries applying IaaS, Chinese libraries could learn from their experience.[Method/process] Based on both websites investigation and case analysis methods, this article surveyed the foreign libraries which applied IaaS, and discussed the service functions of IaaS, application backgrounds, processes of implementation, experience of application, etc.[Result/conclusion] IaaS is in common use among libraries recently. The article made a conclusion of the experience and lessons of foreign libraries applying IaaS. And combined with current backgrounds of Chinese libraries, it discusses about how to analyze the situation that whether it is necessary to apply IaaS, how to choose IaaS providers, building local procedures of moving into IaaS, and lessons of the application of IaaS.
