Integration and Effectiveness of Altmetric Tools and Institutional Repository: Taking Plumx for Example

[Purpose/significance] Altmetrics is an important complement to traditional bibliometrics. With the development of research on altmetrics, many international institutional repositories have applied related tools and obtained a certain effect in practice. It extremely pays close attention to whether it is necessary and feasible to apply altmetrics tools in China's institutional repositories.[Method/process] Based on the application background scanning and feasibility analyzing, this paper combs the related issues in the application of altmereics tools to institutional repositories from the perspectives of altmetrics tools choosing, embedded process and widgets types. What's more, it summarizes the practical effects what the foreign funds, scientific research, hospitals, colleges and universities and other institutions get when integrating altmetics tools.[Result/conclusion] It finds that PlumX wiget is a feasible tool for applying on China's institutional repository. Internationally, its efficiency includes six aspects, including visually presenting the outputs of foundation, helping younger scientists show the impact of their outputs, predicting citation metrics based on usage and captures, stimulating the researchers to deposit their scientific outputs to provide decision-making information, meeting the need of assessing outputs from subordinate discipline and subject, enhancing the visibility and recognition of outputs.
