The Construction Strategy of University Institutional Repositories

[Purpose/significance] Institutional repositories develop rapidly in global scope, which has become the protagonist of the open access movement. Colleges and universities have become the main force in the construction of institutional repository. And the construction strategy is an important factor affecting the effectiveness of construction. The research on the construction strategy is very important to improve the level and effect of the institutional repository of the library. And it can provide the theoretical basis and practical guidance for the IR construction of university library. [Method/process] Through investigation on the institutional repositories among Chinese universities, the existing problems were analyzed and the construction strategy of institutional repositories was stated. [Result/conclusion] The existing problems included low popularization rate, limited capacity, single resource type, poor openness and resource acquisition difficulties. According to the practice of Chongqing University institutional repository, from the platform construction, the resources construction, sustainable development three aspects, the construction strategy of institutional repositories was stated.
