[Purpose/significance] This paper aims to understand the research progress of the mapping between patents and industries and provides some references for the further research.[Method/process] After introducing the patent and industrial classifications, the research areas and methods were discussed in this paper.[Result/conclusion] In conclusion, foreign researches are earlier and more mature than domestic researches.The mapping methods are also summarized, including those based on expert judgments, cross retrieval and probability calculations.Finally, the characteristics and limitations of these methods are described.Some future research directions based on the current research are also briefly discussed in this paper.
