[Purpose/significance] A "sleeping beauty" in science refers to a paper that has the citation history of long hibernation followed by a sudden spike of popularity. That is to say, its significance is not recognized for several years after publication. The sleeping beauties tend to be associated with the most important scientific discoveries, so identifying these papers plays an important role in the study about the sleeping beauties in science.[Method/process] This paper adopted the analysis method of literature. On the basis of grasping the existing methods of identification, this paper clarified the object of identification, selected the appropriate entry point, and introduced two new indicators.[Result/conclusion] This paper offers a proposal of the improvement approach to optimize the method of identification.
