Developing an Evaluation Model for Digital Library Interaction from the Perspective of Critical Success Factors

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This study focuses on the different dimensions where the interaction between users and digital libraries happens such as information, technology, and task to identify the critical success factors in order to refine the existing interactive evaluation model of digital library and to construct a more practical evaluation index system.[Method/process] This study examines the critical success factors leading to the success of the interaction through an experiment embedded with in-depth interviews.[Result/conclusion] The results indicate that 21 factors, such as a rational classification scheme, user guide, integrated functions, conciseness, familiarity etc.,are the critical success factors when users interact with the digital library. Compared with the evaluation model of interaction in digital libraries, two new aspects (user's interaction demands and user's habits) are identified. The new factors identified could improve the interactive evaluation model. Twenty-one critical success factors can be the operational evaluation indexes, based on which the designers can refine the design.
