[Purpose/significance] This paper discusses the coping strategy with failed queries in OPAC searching at a university library.[Method/process] It collected OPAC log from Beijing Normal University library. Then it coded each query reformulation on the basis of five strategies, including stopping, parallelism, generalization, specification and combination.[Result/conclusion] Only 10% of the reformulation was labeled to stopping searching. 44.2% of the reformulation were to take parallelism strategy, which followed by the generalization (24.4%). Not many users narrowed their queries or used more than one strategy at one time. Finally, it provides suggestions to strengthen user training and promote OPAC system.
