Influence Factors Research on Information Seeking of Migrant Workers Based on Grounded Theory

[Purpose/significance] This paper establishes a theoretical framework of influence factors of migrant workers' information seeking in order to help migrant workers enhance information capability and accelerate the citizenization of migrant workers. [Method/process] This paper conducts in-depth interviews with 30 migrant workers and discusses influence factors of migrant workers' information seeking using grounded theory. It holds that the influence factors of migrant workers' information seeking are divided into individual factors, object factors and environmental factors. The individual factors are divided into information literacy of migrant workers and information seeking channels. The object factors are embodied as the information sources. And the environmental factors are guarantee system of information seeking. [Result/conclusion] The interaction among individual, object, and environmental factors will work together to influence migrant workers' information seeking. Specifically, any positive changes happening in one of the three factors will promote the other two into better conditions. The ability of information seeking for migrant workers will thus be overall enhanced when positive interactions exist within the three factors.
