Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The paper aims to review the field of consumer health informatics (CHI) which is one branch of medical informatics, and discover the research gaps.[Method/process] This paper employs text coding to present different definitions of CHI, and various stages of health information lifecycle in terms of research questions and variables.[Result/conclusion] The definition of CHI is constructed based on reviews of the research objects covering technologies, consumers, missions, objectives, tasks, field attributes, etc. Research findings of the related papers are classified in health information demands, seeking, access, acceptance, usage and evaluations by consumers.
