Analysis on the Information Retrieval Experience: A Perspective of Flow Theory

Abstract

[Purpose/significance]This paper attempts to develop a scale for information retrieval experience and explore the rules of information retrieval experience.[Method/process]The experience sampling method was used in three university libraries to carry out a questionnaire survey on the users of the information retrieval. The quality of the scale was tested and the experience quality of different channels were compared by data analysis.[Result/conclusion]The results show that the scale is an effective tool to measure the information retrieval experience. The challenge and skills as well as their compatibility play a key role in affecting information retrieval experience. The highest score of the flow channel is found in all the dimensions of experience, the apathy channel experience the worst, the anxiety and the boredom channel score between the flow and apathy channel.
